Concordia College at Moorhead was founded in 1891 as a private, Lutheran-affiliated liberal arts college. It was established by Norwegian immigrants who wanted to bring the educational model of the European folk high school to the United States. The founders were inspired by the idea of providing an education that would prepare students for life, not just a profession. The school opened with six students and two faculty members. Over the years, Concordia College has grown and expanded its academic offerings to include over sixty majors and minors in areas such as business, education, nursing, technology, and more. In addition to its traditional undergraduate programs, Concordia also offers graduate degrees in areas such as education leadership and healthcare administration. The college has also established various outreach programs that serve local communities through service learning opportunities and internships. In recent years, Concordia has become increasingly recognized for its commitment to sustainability initiatives such as renewable energy sources and green building practices.
