Columbia College was founded in 1851 by the Baptist Education Society of South Carolina. The school was initially located in Winnsboro, SC, and operated as a co-ed liberal arts college. In 1870, Columbia College moved to its current location in Columbia, SC, where it has since grown into a comprehensive university.
