Colorado State University-Pueblo was established in 1933 as the Southern Colorado Branch of Colorado State College of Education. It was founded to provide educational opportunities to the people of Southern Colorado. Initially, the college offered two year programs in education and business, but later expanded to offer four year degrees in various fields. In 1964, it became an independent institution and changed its name to Southern Colorado State College. In 1965, it began offering Masters degree programs and in 1983 it was granted university status and changed its name to University of Southern Colorado. The university continued to expand its academic offerings and by 1999, it had become one of the largest universities in the region. Today, the university offers over 80 bachelor’s degrees, 20 master’s degrees, two doctoral degrees and a variety of certificates and endorsements for students from around the world. In addition to its academic offerings, CSU-Pueblo is also home to many research centers and institutes dedicated to improving the quality of life for people in Southern Colorado through research initiatives and community outreach programs.
