Founded in 1874, Colorado College (CC) is the oldest college in the state of Colorado. Originally called Colorado Seminary, it was established by a group of Methodist ministers who wanted to create an educational institution that would serve the newly settled region. The school was renamed Colorado College in 1886, and it was relocated to its current location on the edge of downtown Colorado Springs two years later.
Since its inception, CC has been a leader in liberal arts education and has developed a reputation for academic excellence. It is one of the few colleges in the country that offers an innovative block plan, allowing students to take one class at a time over an intensive three-and-a-half week period. This method encourages students to deeply explore their subject matter and gain a strong appreciation for interdisciplinary learning. In addition, CC boasts a wide variety of majors and minors—from anthropology to zoology—as well as study abroad programs that give students access to world-class universities around the globe.
