The College of St. Scholastica was founded by a group of Benedictine Sisters in 1912. The sisters wanted to create an institution that would provide a quality education for women. The first classes were held in the basement of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, and only seven students enrolled. Over time, enrollment increased and the college moved to its current location on Woodland Avenue in Duluth, Minnesota.

The college has grown significantly since its founding and now serves more than 4,000 students from across the country and around the world. In addition to offering a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs, the college has also established numerous centers for research and scholarship. These include centers devoted to health care administration, public health, environmental stewardship, business innovation, nursing excellence, social work leadership, and more. The College of St. Scholastica is a private, co-educational, Catholic university located in Duluth, Minnesota. It was founded in 1912 and is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. The college offers over 60 undergraduate majors and minors as well as a number of graduate degrees and programs in the fields of health care, education and business. Admissions to the College of St. Scholastica are competitive; however, it does not have an Early Decision program or rolling admissions like many other colleges and universities. The admissions rate for first-year students is approximately 70%, with a total enrollment of 3,700 students across all levels.
