The College of St. Scholastica was founded by a group of Benedictine Sisters in 1912. The sisters wanted to create an institution that would provide a quality education for women. The first classes were held in the basement of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, and only seven students enrolled. Over time, enrollment increased and the college moved to its current location on Woodland Avenue in Duluth, Minnesota.
The college has grown significantly since its founding and now serves more than 4,000 students from across the country and around the world. In addition to offering a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs, the college has also established numerous centers for research and scholarship. These include centers devoted to health care administration, public health, environmental stewardship, business innovation, nursing excellence, social work leadership, and more. The college also offers extensive opportunities for study abroad programs as well as internships with local businesses and organizations. In addition to providing educational opportunities for its students, St. Scholastica is committed to serving its community through outreach initiatives such as mentoring programs for local high school students and volunteer service projects with area nonprofits.
