The College of St. Joseph was founded in 1956 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery. The college was originally established as a two-year women’s college, offering associate degrees in various fields, such as nursing and education. However, it quickly grew to become a four-year institution with the addition of a bachelor’s degree program in 1965. In 1970, the college became coeducational, allowing both men and women to attend and pursue their academic goals. In 1993, the college changed its name from College of St. Joseph-in-Rutland to College of St. Joseph to reflect its broadened scope and mission. As the years have passed, the college has continued to grow and expand its academic offerings to include master’s degrees in education and business administration, as well as numerous certificate programs for those seeking specialized training or continuing education credits. Today, the College of St. Joseph is proud to serve more than 900 students from across Vermont and beyond who come together on its campus each year with a shared goal: achieving their educational dreams while making an impact on their communities through service learning opportunities both locally and globally.
