The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) was established in 1971 as Nevada Southern Community College. At the time, it was one of the first two-year colleges in the state of Nevada and was created to provide educational opportunities to students who could not attend university due to financial constraints. The college initially offered associate’s degrees and certificates in a variety of areas including business, technology, health care, education, and more.

In 1991, the college changed its name from Nevada Southern Community College to the College of Southern Nevada in order to better reflect its mission and purpose. The following year CSN opened its first permanent campus located in Henderson, NV which is now known as the Henderson Campus. This location was followed by two additional campuses located in North Las Vegas and Charleston Avenue which were opened shortly after.

The college also began offering bachelor’s degrees for the first time during this period. CSN currently offers a wide range of degree options from associates to bachelors degrees across six different academic divisions: Arts & Sciences; Business & Technology; Education; Health Science & Human Services; Urban Affairs; and Workforce & Economic Development. In addition to these degree offerings CSN also provides a number of student services such as tutoring centers, career counseling services, library resources, online courses, internships and more that help students reach their educational goals.
