The College of Mount St. Joseph was founded in 1920 by the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati. In its early years, the college focused on providing a liberal arts education to young women. It was the first Catholic college in the region to offer an accredited four-year degree program and it quickly developed a reputation for excellence in education. By 1940, the college had grown to include more than 500 students and offered courses in a wide range of disciplines. Over the next two decades, the college continued to expand its academic offerings and became one of the most respected Catholic institutions in Ohio. In 1966, it became co-ed and began admitting male students as well as female students into its programs. This marked a major milestone for gender equality at Mount St. Joseph, which has always prided itself on being an inclusive institution that values diversity and inclusion. The college underwent significant growth throughout the 1970s and 80s, expanding both its academic programs and student body size while also becoming one of only three colleges in Ohio to offer an MBA program. Today, Mount St. Joseph is a vibrant community that offers more than 50 undergraduate majors, 16 graduate programs and numerous continuing education opportunities for adult learners looking to further their education or career goals.
