Colby-Sawyer College is a private, independent college located in New London, New Hampshire. Established in 1837 as the New London Literary and Scientific Institution, it was the first college in the state of New Hampshire. Initially intended to educate young men and women for careers in teaching and other professions, Colby-Sawyer has since evolved into a comprehensive liberal arts college. In 1867, the school was renamed Colby Academy after its benefactor Reverend John Colby and became an accredited college in 1927. In 1972, it merged with Sawyer School of Business to become Colby-Sawyer College.

Since then, the college has grown exponentially.
