Clayton State University was established in 1969 as Clayton Junior College and was part of the Clayton County Public School System. In 1986, it became a four-year college, and then in 1996 it was granted university status. In the time since becoming a university, Clayton State has grown to become one of the leading educational institutions in the state of Georgia.
