Sighisoara

Sighişoara is one of the most picturesque cities in Romania, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. The city stands on a hill above the Tirnava Mare River, 175 km northwest of Bucharest. History

Sighisoara is known in history under the German name Schäßburg and the Hungarian name Segesvár. The city was founded in the 13th century by German colonists from Saxony, who erected a medieval fortress, several churches and the famous Clock Tower 64 meters high on a hill.

In the 14th century, Schösburg became a free city, and by the 16th century, one of the leading trade and craft centers in Eastern Europe. In the 15th century, the ruler Vlad Dracula, expelled from Wallachia, minted a coin in the city.

The lower part of the city was destroyed by an earthquake in 1668 and a fire in 1676, but was rebuilt over the next century.

The tourist information office is located directly in the citadel, next to the clock tower. Another one is outside the walls of the citadel, if you go down from the fortress through the Clock Tower.

How to get to Sighisoara

The city can be reached by train from Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Arad, Brasov, Sibiui and other cities in the country. In addition, international trains from Budapest, Prague, Vienna and Krakow stop here every day.

The railway station is located near the city center, within walking distance.

Entertainment and attractions of Sighisoara

In the Citadel of Sighisoara (12th century), all the main sights of the city are hidden: the Clock Tower (which now houses a historical museum, and a beautiful view of the city opens from the open observation deck of the city), the Lutheran church at the monastery in the Gothic style, the museum of medieval weapons, the Lutheran church on a hill in the Gothic style, the house of Vlad Tepes (which now houses a restaurant, a monument to Tepes.

Next to the citadel, across the river, stands a beautiful white and black Orthodox church, the second – the oldest in the city (1797) is located near Cornesti.

Sinaia

Sinaia is a popular and fashionable ski resort in Romania, located 125 km from Bucharest. It is considered one of the best in the Carpathians, not only for its 40 km of excellent trails of various difficulty levels and good infrastructure, but also for its originality and picturesqueness.

There are many coniferous forests and clean air, and the city has a lot of attractions, including a palace and a castle. Lifts go to the slopes directly from the city center, ski tours often include a rich excursion program. The ski season in winter lasts from December to March, and in summer people come here for trekking in the Bucegi mountain range.

Flight to Bucharest (130 km), then transfer about 2.5 hours.

Trails of Sinai

The ski slopes of the resort are located on two slopes of the mountain Vyrful-ku-Dor (2030 m) – eastern and western. The ski area is located at an altitude of 1000-2030 m, there are 10 tracks with a total length of 40 km and with a height difference from 100 to 500 m. The longest track stretches 6 km.

The first stage of the cable car starts right from the center of Sinai. More than 3 km long trail leads down from the first station – when there is a lot of snow, you can ski right to the entrance of the hotel. The length of the second stage of the lift is about 2 km. The track passing under it is “black”, steep, 1.5 km long.

The resort also has 20 km of cross-country ski runs, as well as sledding and bobsleigh runs.

Sinai Hotels

The resort has enough good quality hotels, small pensions and simple bed&breakfast. In the very center of the city, on the main highway that runs through the whole city, there is a tourist information office where they can help you choose and book a hotel.

Entertainment and attractions of Sinai

Sinaia is the former summer residence of the Romanian royal family. Accordingly, the main local attraction is Peles Castle (opening hours: 10:00-17:00), one of the best preserved royal residences in Europe. Nearby, 100 meters away, stands the Peleshor Palace, built a little later, in which an interesting museum is open. Not far from the castles there is a beautiful monastery, the entrance is free.

Numerous restaurants, bars and discos around the central boulevard. There are also plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities “after skiing”: swimming pools, gyms, an ice rink next to the Palace and Caraimar hotels.

Slanic-Moldova, Romania

Slanic-Moldova is one of the most popular medical resorts in Romania. The city is located just 80 km from Bakeu, through which the Moscow- Sofia train passes.

The resort has a unique nugget chiropractor Dan (who, according to rumors, used to work with Vanga herself). For a moderate fee, he undertakes to perform miracles, adjust the vertebrae, examine the biofield and do therapeutic massage.

Weather in Slanic-Moldova

The climate here is transitional from mountainous to subalpine with cool summers (+18 °C in July) and mild winters (-4 °C in January). The air is clean, rich in tarry aerosols and negative oxygen ions.

Medicinal factors: mineral waters (there are more than 20 springs on the territory of Slanic-Moldova), the microclimate of salt caves, mofettes, a sparing bioclimate. Salt mines (one of the best in the world), visiting which is the most natural and effective way to treat asthma and other broncho-pulmonary diseases. Mofetta is a device using carbon dioxide for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
