Chestnut Hill College was founded in 1924 by the Sisters of St. Joseph, a Catholic religious order. Originally located in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, the college moved to its current location on the historic grounds of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in 1929. It was at this time that Chestnut Hill College became a four-year institution with degree granting authority from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Over its nearly 100 year history, Chestnut Hill College has grown to offer more than 50 undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates, as well as online programs for working adults. The college has also maintained its commitment to its Catholic identity while emphasizing values such as social justice and service learning through a variety of programs and initiatives that promote civic engagement and global awareness among students.
