Chestnut Hill College was founded in 1924 by the Sisters of St. Joseph, a Catholic religious order. Originally located in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, the college moved to its current location on the historic grounds of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in 1929. It was at this time that Chestnut Hill College became a four-year institution with degree granting authority from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
