Note on the passport

For travel outside of the capital, all prefectures require authorizations (authorisation de circuler) from Chad’s Ministry of the Interior, which are best applied for with the visa (issuance in the country not guaranteed). When entering by land, the permit must be applied for together with the visa.

Costs

Germany, Austria tourist and business visa: €100 (stay up to 30 days, single entry). Switzerland tourist and business visa: 110 CHF (single entry) 160 CHF (multiple entries)

Visa types and costs

Tourist visa, transit visa (for a maximum stay of 48 hours).

Validity

Maximum 3 months, length of stay up to 30 days.

Transit

Travelers can apply for a transit visa if they continue their journey within 48 hours on the same or the next aircraft, do not leave the transit area and can present a confirmed flight ticket and valid travel documents for the destination country. In person or by post at the consulate or the consular department of the embassy (see contact addresses).

Application required

  1. a) 2 application forms. (b) 2 identical passport photos. (c) Valid passport with at least one blank page. (d) Travel documents, hotel reservation or visiting address and proof of funds. (e) Possibly a residence permit for Germany, Austria or Switzerland. (f) Fee (cash or personal check upon application). (g) Formulaire de Demande de l’Autorisation de Circuler. Business trips additionally: (g) Letter of secondment from your own company in English or French with details of the purpose and duration of the trip and confirmation of the assumption of costs. (h) Letter of invitation from the Chadian company in English or French. A stamped, registered return envelope must be enclosed with the application.

Processing time

5 working days plus mail. Transit visa: 2-15 business days.

Legally Required Registration

Tourists must apply to the embassy for a travel permit for the prefectures to be visited, separate from the visa application, before entering the country by land. Members of organized group trips are not affected. When entering the country via N’Djamena airport, it is also important to check whether the passport authorities stamp a request in the passport to register with the responsible commissariat. This request must then be complied with within 24 hours. Many travelers are encouraged to re-register in each city in the country they visit.

Documents required upon entry

Entry with children

German: Own passport. Austrians: Own passport. Swiss: Own passport. Turks: Own passport. Note: The same visa regulations apply to children as to their parents. Since June 27, 2012, children need their own travel document (passport / children’s passport) to travel abroad (also within the EU). Entries of children in the parental passport are no longer possible.

Exit permit

All travelers staying in the country for more than 24 hours require an exit permit.
