Central Methodist University (CMU) was founded in 1854 by Nathan Scarritt and David Rice McAnally. Located in Fayette, Missouri, CMU began as a small school for children of Methodist families. Over the years, the university has grown and evolved to become a four-year college offering a range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. In 1923, the school was renamed Central College and began offering its first bachelor’s degrees. By 1940, Central College had become Central Methodist College and the student body had grown to over 500 students.

In 1961, Central Methodist College achieved university status and became Central Methodist University (CMU). The university has since expanded its campus to include several academic buildings, residence halls, recreational facilities, a library and an art museum. CMU now offers over 50 undergraduate degree programs as well as several master’s degree programs in areas such as business administration, education, nursing and social work. Established in 1854, CMU offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate programs across four colleges and one school.
