The Catholic University of America (CUA) was founded in 1887 as a papal institution by Pope Leo XIII. It is the only university in the United States established and chartered by a pope. CUA has grown from its original location on North Capitol Hill to include five schools: Arts and Sciences, Architecture and Planning, Engineering, Nursing, and Canon Law.
