Carthage College Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Carthage College was founded in 1847 by Lutheran pioneers from Germany. Initially, the college was known as the German-English Academy and offered classes in German and English. In 1861, the school’s name changed to Northwestern College and its curriculum expanded to include subjects like mathematics and science. The college moved to its current location in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1892, where it was renamed Carthage College after the ancient city of Carthage.

In 1898, Carthage became a four-year institution offering baccalaureate degrees in liberal arts, science and theology. In 1920, the college created a new two-year program leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. By 1925, Carthage had become a fully accredited college with more than 40 faculty members and an enrollment of nearly 500 students.

Throughout the 20th century, the college continued to grow and expand its academic offerings. In 1965, it opened its first graduate program in education with additional master’s programs added over time in fields such as music therapy and business administration. Today, Carthage offers more than 50 majors across four divisions—Arts & Humanities; Natural & Applied Sciences; Social Sciences; and Professional Studies—as well as 10 minors and 17 pre-professional programs of study. See topschoolsintheusa for pharmacy schools in Michigan.
