Passport information

Generally required, must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the stay.

Visa information

Generally required, with the exception of nationals of the following countries listed in the table above for tourist stays of up to 30 days: (a) Germany, Austria and all other EU countries; (b) Switzerland. Visa on arrival All nationalities requiring a visa (except Moroccan nationals) can apply for a visa on arrival in Sal, Boa Vista and Sao Vicente. However, it is recommended to contact the responsible diplomatic mission before travelling, in order to avoid long waiting times at the airport and to ensure a smooth entry. Attention: Entry with private ships is only possible via the ports of Sal, Praia and Mindelo.

Costs

Germany and Austria family visa: Berlin: €57 (1 parent + child) + €45 for partner (single entry, valid for three months); €110 (1 parent + child) + €87 for the partner (for a stay of up to 3 months, multiple entries). Prices vary from location to location at diplomatic missions. Switzerland 75 CHF (single entry); 145 CHF (multiple entries). Express processing (2 days): additional 10 CHF.

90 days stay (possibility to extend on site).

Transit

Otherwise, transit travelers who require a visa, who fly on with the next connection, do not leave the transit area and have valid onward flight tickets, do not need a transit visa. Consular department of the embassy or consulate (see contact addresses).

Application required

(a) 1-2 application forms (to be completed in Portuguese or English) (downloadable from the website of the relevant diplomatic mission). (b) 1-2 passport photos. (c) Passport valid for at least six months upon departure and copy of relevant pages. (d) Fee/proof of payment (personal check or bank receipt of bank transfer with bank stamp). (e) If applicable, residence permit for Germany, Austria or Switzerland. (f) Tourist travel: Copy of travel confirmation for package tours or flight ticket and hotel booking or, if proof of accommodation is not available, sufficient funds. (g) Business trips: Letter of secondment from the company with information on the purpose and duration of the trip and confirmation of the assumption of costs; Invitation letter from the Cape Verdean company; Booking confirmation for the outward and return journey. A stamped, registered return envelope and proof of payment of the fees should be enclosed with the postal application.

Processing time

5 – 10 working days plus post.

Legally Required Registration

All foreign visitors must register online with the Policia National de Cabo Verde at least 5 days before entry. Payment of the airport security fee is due at the time of registration.

Entry with children

German: Machine-readable children’s passport or your own passport. Austrians: Own passport. Swiss: Own passport. Turks: Own passport. Note: The same visa requirements apply to children as to their parents. Since June 27, 2012, children need their own travel document (passport / children’s passport) for trips abroad (also within the EU). Entries of children in the parental passport are no longer possible.
