Passport information

Generally required, must be valid during stay; (However, it should be valid for at least 6 months after departure, because some airlines require it. It is advisable to inquire with the respective airline). Attention: The printout of the eTA must be presented upon entry. Note: Romanian citizens are required to have an electronic passport to apply for an eTA.

Note on the passport

Advanced Passenger Information System (Apis): The system of pre-recorded passenger data, called Advanced Passenger Information System (Apis), requires the registration of the following personal data of passengers by the transporting airline: name, surname, date of birth, nationality, passport number, country of residence, type of travel document and gender. The data is either recorded at check-in or can be entered by the travelers in an online form prior to their arrival at the airport. A printable form is downloadable.

Visa information

A visa is generally required except for nationals of the following countries listed in the table above for a tourist or business stay of up to 6 months (if arriving by air these nationals will need an eTA unless they are visa holders for Canada): EU countries and Switzerland.

Note on the visa

The electronic registration (Electronic Travel Authorization Program – eTA) for arrivals by air is mandatory for EU citizens and Swiss citizens entering or transiting by air. The eTA can be applied for online. Validity of the eTA: 5 years Cost: 7 CAD$ (payable by credit card) Processing time: In most cases a few minutes, rarely three days or longer.

Validity

Visa-free entry for up to 6 months. The length of stay is determined upon entry by the immigration authorities. Application required

(k) Copy of Host’s documentation regarding their status in Canada. (l) Private Health Insurance. (m) Possibly unlimited residence permit for Germany, Austria, the Netherlands or Switzerland. (n) Married: copy of marriage certificate together with registration certificate for the whole family. (o) Persons under the age of 18 traveling alone or with only one parent: copy of the birth certificate and the consent of the absent parents in English or French. Declarations of consent in all other languages ​​must be certified. (p) Fee (Transfer Receipt). Temporary Residence

A work permit is required for the provisional residence permit. Anyone intending to study or take up temporary work in Canada should contact the embassy as permission must be obtained prior to entry. Holders of a valid study permit or residence permit do not need an additional visa to return from the USA or St. Pierre & Miquelon. Proof of sufficient funds

Travelers must have sufficient funds upon entry.

Extension of stay

An application for an extension of stay must be submitted to the Case Processing Center (CPC) in Vegreville, Alberta at least 30 days prior to the expiration of the approved stay. More information from Immigration Canada in English or French).

Entry with pets

For birds from all countries (except the USA) an import permit is required for the movement. A permit from the Canadian Wildlife Service may also be required. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency provides more information. A maximum of two birds may be imported. You must have stayed with the owner in the last 90 days. For US birds, the owner must have proof of ownership and the birds must be found healthy upon entry. Dogs and cats from rabies-free countries may be imported with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian clearly identifying and certifying the animal, that no case of rabies has occurred in the country of origin in the last 6 months before entry and that the animal has not left the country of origin during this time. A vaccination card must show that you have been vaccinated against rabies in the last three years. Dogs and cats under 3 months old are excluded. For dogs and cats under the age of 8 months that are not accompanied by their owner when brought to Canada, the provisions set out above apply.
