Campbell University was founded in 1887 by James Archibald Campbell, a prominent Baptist minister and educator. It began as Buies Creek Academy, a small school in the rural community of Buies Creek, North Carolina. In 1926, the school was renamed Campbell Junior College and began offering two-year Associate’s degrees. In 1961, the college became a four-year institution and was renamed Campbell College. The college continued to expand its academic programs and facilities over the next few decades until it attained university status in 1979 and changed its name to Campbell University.
Since then, Campbell University has become a top-tier institution of higher education with five academic schools offering more than 100 undergraduate majors as well as graduate programs in business, education, engineering, law and medical studies.
