California State University at Fullerton was established in 1957 as the Orange County State College. It was originally founded to serve the educational needs of students living in northern Orange County. The college was part of the California State College system, which eventually became the California State University system. In 1959, the college changed its name to Orange State College and began offering its first master’s degree program in 1963. In 1972, the college became a four-year university and changed its name to California State University at Fullerton.
