Founded in 1960 as South Bay State College, the university was renamed California State College at Palos Verdes in 1968 and then changed its name to California State University, Dominguez Hills in 1984. It is part of the 23-campus California State University system and is one of the most diverse universities in the nation. The university has a total enrollment of over 12,000 students, with approximately 61 percent identifying as students of color. The undergraduate student body is comprised of 35 percent Hispanic/Latino students, 22 percent African American students, 16 percent Asian/Pacific Islander students, 4 percent White/Non-Hispanic students, and 4 percent international students.
