California State University at Channel Islands (CSUCI) was established in 2002 as a public university located in Camarillo, California. It is the 23rd campus of the California State University system and is the first public four-year university to be built in Ventura County in over 40 years. CSUCI’s mission is to provide students with an education that combines academic excellence and experiential learning opportunities with a strong emphasis on community engagement and social responsibility.
The university was founded as a result of a partnership between Ventura County, the California State University system, and private donors. The idea for CSUCI began in 1997 when local leaders proposed creating a new public university to serve Ventura County’s growing population. In 2000, the Legislature approved funding for the new campus which allowed construction to begin in 2001. The first classes were held at CSUCI in 2002 and by 2004, the first graduating class had received their diplomas. Check COLLEGETOPPICKS for a list of engineering schools in Arizona.
