Bryant University was founded in 1863 as a branch of the Smithfield Literary and Scientific Institution. The school, originally known as the Bryant and Stratton Business College, was located in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. In 1904, the college moved to its current location in Smithfield, Rhode Island and changed its name to Bryant College.
The college grew steadily over the next few decades and became a four-year college in 1949, offering Bachelor’s degrees in business administration. In 2004, Bryant College officially became Bryant University after receiving approval from the New England Association of Schools & Colleges for its graduate programs. Today, Bryant University is an accredited institution with more than 3,700 students from around the world enrolled in its undergraduate and graduate programs.
