Brevard College was founded in 1853 by Dr. William Brevard and his wife, Harriet. It was originally located in Charleston, South Carolina, but was moved to its current location in Brevard, North Carolina in 1934. The college was established as a Presbyterian-affiliated school with the purpose of providing a liberal arts education to students of all backgrounds. Throughout its history, the college has had a strong focus on the liberal arts and sciences, while also offering courses in business administration, education, and other fields of study. In addition to traditional classroom instruction, Brevard College has always placed an emphasis on experiential learning opportunities such as internships and study abroad programs.
