Bluefield College was founded in 1922 by the Bluefield Ministerial Association. The college was established as a Christian liberal arts institution and has been dedicated to providing students with a quality education ever since. The college has grown from its initial enrollment of 30 students to over 1,400 students today. In the past, Bluefield College had a strong emphasis on the development of character and spiritual growth through its academic programs. Today, the college still maintains this focus while expanding its curriculum to include more science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) courses as well as more traditional liberal arts courses. Additionally, Bluefield College’s mission is to provide an environment that encourages critical thinking and independent thought while also providing a safe space for creativity and exploration. As part of this mission, the college has implemented several initiatives such as their Student Success Program which offers free tutoring services and professional development workshops to help students succeed academically and professionally.
