Bethany Lutheran College Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Bethany Lutheran College was founded in 1897 by the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States (ELS). Its humble beginnings started when a group of local pastors and lay people assembled to discuss the need for an institution that would provide Christian education to the youth. The college was named after Bethany, a village in Judea where Jesus spent time with his disciples. The college opened with just five students and initially offered only high school courses. Over time, more classes were added until Bethany was eventually granted its charter as a four-year liberal arts college.

In the early 1900s, Bethany Lutheran College began to expand and grow. A new building was built to house classrooms, laboratories, and a library. The college also established several departments such as English Literature and History, Mathematics, Science, Philosophy and Psychology. In addition to this expansion in curriculum offerings, the college also began offering extracurricular activities such as athletics and student organizations. As enrollment increased so did the campus size; by 1915 it had grown significantly enough to accommodate two hundred students.

The 1920s saw further expansion of Bethany Lutheran College with the construction of new buildings for music instruction as well as student housing accommodations for men and women students separately. Over time more departments were added including Business Administration, Education and Social Work which provided more opportunities for students wanting to pursue higher education at Bethany Lutheran College. By 1950 enrollment had grown to over 500 students making it one of the larger colleges in Minnesota at that time.

Throughout its history Bethany Lutheran College has remained faithful to its commitment of providing quality Christian education while meeting the changing needs of its students over time. Today it offers over forty majors across six schools: Arts & Sciences; Business; Education; Health Professions; Music & Communication Arts; Nursing & Allied Health; and Social Sciences & Humanities – all rooted in its core values of faithfulness, excellence in teaching/learning environment, service leadership development/mentoring and global engagement/cultural diversity.
