Bellevue College was founded in 1966 as a branch of the Seattle Community College District. The college was originally named Bellevue Community College (BCC) and offered educational opportunities to local residents and businesses. BCC quickly grew in popularity and size, with more than 1,000 students enrolled by 1969. In 1972, the college changed its name to Bellevue College to reflect its increasing influence in the community.

In the decades since its founding, Bellevue College has continued to expand its academic programs and facilities. In 2014, the college opened a new campus in Redmond that is home to several academic buildings as well as student services and recreational facilities.
