In the small fishing village of Bayahibe, a yacht port has been opened, from which excursion routes to the islands of Saona and Catalina originate. Clean beaches and azure waters of the Caribbean Sea attract tourists to hotels located nearby. The sea here is completely calm, and small shoals of fish swim right off the shore. The resort is well suited for families who prefer a relaxing holiday, as well as diving enthusiasts.

According to programingplease, the resort is located just 15 km east of its larger counterpart along the coast – La Romana. Founded in 1874 as a fishing port by Juan Brito and family from Puerto Rico, today Bayahibe has grown into a popular tourist destination. Another indisputable plus of the resort is the ability to choose a beach to your liking.

How to get there

La Romana Airport is the nearest, 20-25 minutes away. Taxi for 5 persons will cost 35-45 USD. About 1.5 hours drive from Bayahibe there are two more airports – Punta Cana and Santo Domingo (a taxi will already cost 150 USD). Prices on the page are for July 2021.

In addition, the resort can be reached by public transport, however, with a transfer in La Romana. For example, the Santo Domingo – La Romana bus will deliver tourists for 5-6 USD and about an hour’s journey, from there it is already necessary to take guaguas (something like Dominican minibuses) to Bayahibe for 5 USD and 20 minutes. They run from 8 am to about 6 pm, some of them also stop at Dominicus Beach. See healthinclude for colonial history of North America.

The bus station in Bayahibe is located in the very center of the village, near a large grocery store, in La Romana, near the Jumbo supermarket. A taxi between these two points will not be cheap – about 27 USD.

Bayahibe beaches

The beach of the same name (Bayahibe) is located less than one and a half kilometers from the city center. This is the resort’s most popular beach and can get quite busy here. Dominicus Beach, 6 km from Bayahibe, is more secluded and ideal for lovers of silence.

Entertainment and attractions in Bayahiba

Scuba diving, horseback riding, big fish hunting, tennis, boat trips to the islands, jeep safari, excursions to Santo Domingo and Los Haitises National Park.

Another picturesque park – Parque del Este – is located right next to Bayahibe. Its luxurious nature, graceful caves, diving sites, snorkelling sites and hiking trails are a great opportunity to entertain yourself and change the serene picture of sea-sky-beach. In addition, getting here is ridiculously easy, you don’t need a taxi or a car.

Two entrances lead to the park, the western one is next to Bayahibe. It is enough just to follow the signs from the resort center and literally after a couple of kilometers you can come to Guaraguao. The path from here leads to the nearest caves. The eastern entrance is just outside the village of Boca del Yuma. From there, the trail runs along the coast. The main office of the park is also located in Bayahibe.

Diving

Diving and snorkeling is perhaps the main tourist attraction in the resort. There are about 10 dive shops in Bayahibe, where you can also order diving in nearby spots. In total, off the coast of Bayahibe, there are about 20 official dive sites that can be easily reached by boat, of which three picturesque wrecks are Atlantic Princess, St George and Coco.

Night life

Stars Club (Calle Principe, Dominicus Beach) is one of the most charming places you will ever be. This bar and disco is located on top of a hill, offering its guests breathtaking views of Bayahibe Beach with a chill-out atmosphere. It is from here that you should start your Saturday evening, recharged with energy for the whole night (admission is about 5 USD, including a welcome drink).

Super Colmado, located on Calle Principe, but already in Bayahibe, the center of the nightlife of the entire village. People come here on the way from work or returning from the market, to have a drink or two or just to share the news. As soon as the sun goes down, beer fans flock here, refresh themselves with an amber drink and talk about the day’s “exploits”.

Casino Diamante Dominicus is a casino and disco in one bottle, famous for its excellent cocktails, fun atmosphere, Western music and performances of various bands and ensembles. Nestled nearby is Ed’s Sports Bar, where delicious food pairs with a big screen and major sporting events. You can also dance on Dominicus Beach at El Eden Disco.
