Bard College Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Bard College was founded in 1860 in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York as St. Stephen’s College by John Bard and Reverend Dr. Samuel B.M. Ward who had the vision of creating a college that would serve the needs of their rural area and provide a liberal education for all its students regardless of their background or financial means. The first class had only nine students and it was not until 1868 that the college was chartered by the State of New York as “Bard College”, named after its founder John Bard, who donated his entire estate to support the school.

In 1894, Bard College established itself as an independent degree-granting institution and began offering degrees in literature, science, and engineering. The college also began providing graduate programs during this time period with a Master of Arts program being offered in 1895 followed by a Doctorate of Philosophy program in 1898. Throughout its history, Bard has continued to expand its academic offerings with new undergraduate and graduate programs being introduced regularly over the years including an Institute for Writing & Thinking which was established in 1998 to help promote critical thinking skills among students from all disciplines. In addition to these academic programs, Bard has also been known for its commitment to social justice issues such as environmentalism and racial equity with numerous student-led organizations dedicated to these causes on campus today. Check USPRIVATESCHOOLSFINDER for a list of private schools in Texas.
