Passport information

Generally required, must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the stay. Note: Some airlines require other residual validity periods for travel documents.

Visa information

A visa is generally required except for citizens of the following countries listed in the table above for tourist stays of up to 3 months in any 6 month period (unless otherwise stated) with proof of a return or onward ticket and sufficient funds for the length of stay: EU countries (exception: [1] nationals of Ireland up to 6 months), (b) Switzerland, (c) Turkey up to 6 months. Note: Upon arrival, a residence permit is usually granted for at least 28 days, which can be extended at the Immigration Department (see residence permit).

Costs

Germany, Austria and Switzerland Tourist and Business Visa: BDS$104 (single entry), BDS$208 (multiple entry) (Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs). €92 (at the Honorary Consulate General in Vienna and at the Embassy in Brussels). The visa fees depend on the nationality and length of the planned stay and apply to nationals who require a visa and have a valid residence permit for Germany, Austria or Switzerland.

Visa types and costs

Tourist, business and student visa.

Transit

Travelers requiring a visa who leave Barbados within 12 hours, do not leave the transit area and have valid travel documents and onward travel tickets for their next destination do not require a transit visa. In person or by post at the consulate or at the consular section of the embassy.

Application required

(a) 2 application forms. (b) 1 passport photo. (c) Copy of passport which is still valid for at least 6 months upon departure for Barbados (possibly with residence permit) and copies of the relevant pages. (d) Fee (cash if applying in person; international money order or personal check if applying by post). (e) Company letters on business trips. (f) Proof of employment in the country of origin (e.g. employment contract, school certificate, etc.). (g) A stamped, registered return envelope if the application is submitted by post. (h) Cover letter to the Chief Immigration Officer with address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail address. (i) If applicable, residence permit for Germany, Austria or Switzerland.

Processing time

Tourist visa: about 3 weeks.

Proof of sufficient funds

Foreigners must have sufficient funds during their stay.

Documents required upon entry

Onward or return ticket, proof of accommodation (hotel or private).

Entry with children

German: Machine-readable children’s passport with photograph or your own passport. Austrians: Own passport. Swiss: Own passport. Turks: Own passport. Note: The same visa requirements apply to children as to their parents. Note: Unaccompanied minors should carry a notarized parental consent form in English. It must also be clear who is responsible for the minor(s) in Barbados (e.g. written invitation). This person must pick you up from the airport. Since June 27, 2012, children need their own travel document (passport / children’s passport) for trips abroad (also within the EU).

Entry with pets

For pets, an import permit must be applied for at the Ministry of Agriculture. Dogs and cats from Germany, Austria and Switzerland may not be brought directly to Barbados. They must first be quarantined in the UK for 6 months before an import permit can be applied for.
