Visa information

Generally required. Visa on Arrival Visa is issued on arrival for a stay of 15 days (maximum 30 days) at Dhaka Airport (Shahjalal International Airport) to nationals of the following countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland and all EU countries. When applying for a visa on arrival, a return ticket, passport and proof of sufficient funds must be presented and the visa fee (US$51) must be paid. Private travelers must have an invitation from a Bangladeshi national or a foreigner resident in Bangladesh, and business travelers must have an invitation from their business partner.

Costs

Germany The visa fees listed below apply to German nationals. Single, double and multiple entry (for a stay of up to 15 days): €60 Visa on entry: US$51. Austria The visa fees listed below apply to Austrian nationals. Single and double entry: €35 Citizens of certain countries receive visas free of charge. More information from the embassy (see contact addresses). Visa on arrival: US$51. Switzerland single entry: 40 CHF. Two or more entries: 80 CHF. Visa on arrival: US$51.

Visa types and costs

i.a. Tourist and business visas (single, double and multiple entry). Note: Multiple entry visas are currently only issued if the applicant has already been granted such visas in the past, which requires copies of the visas (including visas in an expired passport) must be documented.

Validity

Tourist visa: 3 months (single entry); Business visa: 3 months (single and double entry). Extensions can be requested from the authorities in Bangladesh. Visas with a validity period of 1 year and multiple entries are also granted, but it must be expected that the consulate will limit the number of entries to four.

Transit

Transit passengers who fly on with the next connection, have valid onward or return tickets and a seat confirmation and do not leave the transit area do not need a transit visa. (Exception: Citizens of China always need a transit visa.) First online on the website of the Department of Immigration and Passports www.visa.gov.bd. The completed online and printed visa application form must be submitted to the relevant Embassy of Bangladesh within 6 days. A personal application may be required.

Application required

Tourist Visa: (a) 1 Application Form (must be completed online at www.visa.gov.bd). (b) 2-3 identical passport photos; Online application: 1 passport photo (3.5 x 4.5 cm) in jpg format, max. 300 KB, in Berlin: 3.7 x 3.7 cm). (c) Passport. (d) Fee (wire transfer or check). (e) Round-trip air ticket. (f) Hotel reservation or signed Invitation from a person in Bangladesh together with a copy of that person’s ID and for online application address in Bangladesh. (g) Self-disclosure (travel dates, places of visit, residence addresses, financing of the trip). (h) Email address for online application. Business visa: (i) Letter of recommendation from the company in the country of residence (with Chamber of Commerce number) stating the purpose and duration of the trip and letter of invitation from the company in Bangladesh. (j) Company letter, if applicable, or letter from the sponsor stating that the cost of the stay is covered. If the application is submitted by post, a stamped, registered envelope, proof of payment and the form “Letter of Authorization” (to authorize the embassy to have the visaed passport sent by post) must be enclosed. Processing time

Approx. 5 days plus post. Express processing: 3-4 days (currently not possible in Berlin).

Foreigners must have sufficient funds.

Entry with children

German: Machine-readable children’s passport or your own passport. Austrians: Own passport. Swiss: Own passport. Turks: Own passport. Note: The same visa regulations apply to children as to their parents. Since June 27, 2012, children need their own travel document (passport / children’s passport) to travel abroad (also within the EU). Entries of children in the parental passport are no longer possible.

Exit permit

When entering Bangladesh by air, a so-called “Route Changes Permission” is required at the Department of Passports and Immigration in Dhaka (Agargaon) for a later departure by land (and vice versa).
