Azusa Pacific University was founded in 1899 as the Training School for Christian Workers. It was the first Bible college on the West Coast, and it has provided religious education for over a century. The school has grown from a small Bible college to a comprehensive university with over 10,000 students. In 1965, the school changed its name to Azusa Pacific College and began offering four-year degrees in addition to its two-year programs. In 1981, it became Azusa Pacific University and began offering graduate programs in addition to its undergraduate programs. The university now offers more than 100 undergraduate majors, 50 master’s degrees, and 15 doctoral programs across seven schools. It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). In 2017, Azusa Pacific was honored as one of the top universities in the country by U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges” list. APU has also been recognized as one of America’s “Best Colleges” by Forbes magazine since 2012. The university is dedicated to engaging students with rigorous academics rooted in faith and encourages them to discover their purpose through service experiences both locally and globally. Through innovative initiatives such as its Center for Research on Ethics & Values (CREV) and Center for Student Action (CSA), APU seeks to prepare its students for lives of service as global citizens who demonstrate Christ’s love through their work in churches, businesses, organizations, government agencies, communities around the world—and beyond.
