Augusta State University (ASU) was founded in 1925 as the Academy of Richmond County, a two-year junior college. Located in Augusta, Georgia, the Academy was established by an act of the Georgia General Assembly. In 1931, the school was renamed Augusta College and began offering four-year programs. In 1958, Augusta College became a part of the University System of Georgia and was renamed Augusta State College. In 1996, it became Augusta State University and began offering graduate degrees for the first time.

Since then, ASU has seen tremendous growth and success. In 2002, ASU opened its Health Sciences campus which offers degree programs in nursing, medical technology and health information technology. The university also offers programs in business administration, public administration and psychology as well as a number of other disciplines. In 2008, ASU opened its new Riverfront Campus which houses multiple schools including the Hull College of Business and the Pamplin College of Arts & Sciences. ASU has also developed a successful online program which provides students with access to courses no matter where they are located. As of 2017, ASU is home to over 8500 students from all walks of life who have come to benefit from an excellent education at one of Georgia’s most respected universities.
