Arizona State University (ASU) was founded in 1885, as the Territorial Normal School. The school was established to provide training to teachers in the Arizona Territory. The school had a total of 33 students and five faculty members when it first opened its doors. Over the years, the school has grown and expanded its educational offerings, becoming a university in 1945.
Today, ASU is one of the largest public universities in the United States with more than 60,000 students enrolled each year. The university has nine colleges offering more than 350 academic programs at its five campuses located throughout Arizona. ASU also offers online degree programs for those who cannot attend classes on campus.
