Arcadia University was founded in 1853 as Beaver Female Seminary in Beaver, Pennsylvania. The school’s name was changed to Arcadia College in 1865 and moved to Germantown, Pennsylvania in 1927. During this time, the college began offering courses in business administration and education. In 1945, Arcadia College became a four-year college and granted its first Bachelor of Science degrees. In 1972, Arcadia College merged with the Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science to become Arcadia University. This merger allowed the university to expand its program offerings and attract students from across the globe.

In 1982, Arcadia introduced its first graduate programs and began offering master’s degrees in education, business administration and computer science.
