American Public University System Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

American Public University System (APUS) was founded in 1991 as a private, for-profit higher education institution, initially offering only online degrees. The university was founded by Major General James “Spider” Marks, USA (Ret.), and Dr. Wallace E. Boston, who served as its first president and CEO. APUS grew rapidly over the next decade and expanded its offerings to include undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs in a variety of disciplines. In 2002, APUS became an accredited institution of higher education after receiving accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

The university underwent significant growth during the early 2000s and began offering more than 200 degree programs with specializations in business administration, criminal justice and homeland security, education, health sciences, information technology management and psychology. In 2006, APUS introduced doctoral degrees in business administration and education leadership. This expansion allowed the university to offer even more educational opportunities to students from all walks of life who wished to pursue higher education while managing their busy lives. See topschoolsintheusa for pharmacy schools in Alaska.

In 2011 APUS completed its acquisition of American Military University (AMU), which had been providing online degree programs since 1993 to active military personnel around the world. As a result of this acquisition, APUS became one of the largest providers of online higher education for military personnel in the world. The combination of AMU’s resources with those already offered by APUS resulted in an even larger selection of degree programs that could be taken advantage of by students across the globe – including those serving overseas or living on remote bases or ships at sea.
