American International College (AIC) was founded in 1885 by a group of civic-minded Springfield, Massachusetts citizens led by John Ashley and Henry S. Pynchon. The college was established to provide higher education opportunities for the city’s youth who were unable to attend out-of-state institutions due to financial constraints. Initially, AIC offered courses in business and law, but soon expanded its curriculum to include liberal arts courses such as English, history, and mathematics. In the early 20th century, AIC began offering more specialized undergraduate degree programs in fields such as nursing, physical education, engineering technology, and business administration. In addition to academic program expansion, AIC also began offering more extracurricular activities such as student clubs and organizations designed to foster a sense of community on campus.
Throughout the years, AIC has continued its commitment to providing quality education while adapting to new technologies and meeting the changing needs of its students. In the 1950s, AIC began offering graduate degrees in fields such as business administration and education. The college also opened its doors to students from other countries who wanted to study abroad in the United States. Today, AIC offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs that meet a wide range of student interests including accounting, computer science, criminal justice studies, finance & economics, health sciences & nursing studies, psychology & counseling services and sports management & coaching among others.
