The American Academy of Art was founded in 1923 by a group of artists and art enthusiasts who wanted to provide a quality education in the fine arts. Located in the heart of Chicago, it is one of the oldest independent art schools in the United States. The Academy has been at its current location since 1935 and is accredited by both the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). In addition to providing an education in traditional fine arts, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking, the Academy also offers courses in graphic design and illustration.
In recent years, American Academy of Art has continued to strengthen its curriculum with new programs such as Animation & Visual Effects and Photography & Digital Imaging.
