Alverno College was established in 1887 as a school to provide quality education to young women of Milwaukee. Founded by the School Sisters of St. Francis, Alverno College has grown from a small liberal arts college to a renowned institution offering over 50 degree programs and certificates. In 1964, Alverno became the first college in the Midwest to offer an all-female curriculum which included courses in science, math, and technology. The school has since expanded its offerings to include more than 80 majors and minors for students of all backgrounds. Over the years, Alverno has worked hard to create an environment that is conducive for learning, with an emphasis on leadership development and community engagement. Alverno offers unique study abroad opportunities, internships, and service learning projects that help students gain real-world experience and develop their skills outside of the classroom. Additionally, Alverno’s commitment to providing quality education extends beyond its traditional degree programs; it also offers non-degree professional development courses designed for working professionals who want to increase their knowledge or earn a certificate or credential in a certain field.
