Albion College was founded in 1835 by Methodist pioneers and was the first private college in Michigan. It was originally located on the corner of East Erie and North Superior Streets in Albion, Michigan. The founders were passionate about creating a college that would provide higher education opportunities to all students regardless of gender, race, or religion. In 1845, the college moved to its current location on West Porter Street. The new campus featured an impressive clock tower and numerous other buildings designed by renowned architect Gordon W. Lloyd.
Throughout its history, Albion College has been dedicated to providing a quality education to its students. In 1889, the college established the first Phi Beta Kappa chapter in Michigan and has since been recognized for its academic excellence by U.S. News & World Report and other organizations.
