Abilene Christian University (ACU) was founded in 1906 by a group of churches seeking to establish a school for higher learning in Abilene, Texas. The university opened its doors in 1910 with a class of 21 students, and was organized around the central goal of providing an education that would prepare students to be effective leaders in their communities and professions.
