Already starting to dazzle the many news for the shoes for winter 2014, and the tuned women can begin to make their choices. They are models for all tastes and styles, and although the trend is for minimalist models, these exaggerations also appear in many collections. (more…)
To leave your feet more protected this winter, nothing like a very comfortable and sophisticated men’s boot, to go to work or even some light rides on the coldest days, as we can find some models in the market that surely can look great on the feet. (more…)
This week it snowed in Toronto for the first time this season (but obviously was the first snow and not yet accumulated in the streets) and the mood of the most concerned about the cold have already begun to overreact. In General, a lot of people ask me here on the blog what they should use when temperatures are ridiculously cold (like today:-8 c with feeling-17 c in the morning, in the middle of 18 November). I always point out the post “-10c,-15c,-20c… what to wear” and I think a very good post, but as I wrote in 2012 I still didn’t have much sense of the terms, of the brands and prices.
Today I decided to make a post, talking of the layers or layers that I use when the temperature is so cold. Today I will show you not only what to use, but the brands, prices and some cheaper options for those who don’t live here – and in my opinion do not need to buy more expensive clothes. Worth to mention that what you wear depends a lot on what you’re going to do—will work, will do any sport, you’re going to walk a lot or a little on the street. Tried here show a general than I normally use on days like this, not specifying much activity.
The First Layer: Base Layer
The first layer is called the base layer, and is the one that gets in contact with your body. You should get a base layer, in order to keep yourself warm in any weather conditions (i.e. from-5 c to-40 c). This layer must be made of an insulating material to absorb your humidity+heat, which means that in addition to protect you from the cold will also remove the moisture from your skin. In other words, you can’t use any fabric and also have to invest a little in this base layer.
I wear the pants and shirt from Under Armour. I love and I think it’s a great brand: direct use, wash and dry the machine and yet my pieces are perfect. The feminine blouse is in site C $59.99, and pants C $59.99; male parts cost C $10 more expensive. Worth to mention that our pieces were bought in the outlet and pay a C $45 each.
A cheaper option is to use an 80 wire and a panty coladinha blouse in the body (those knit black Brazil). I confess to you that when it’s not that cold-like,-5c or-10c) I end up preferring pantyhose because unless I go into places I die of heat. Same thing with these cotton shirts-I can’t keep them indoors, but if you’re with a good thermal layer I die of heat within the sites, which have heating. Worth to mention cotom isn’t a good thermal insulator, but is much more into account when compared with the $60 blouses Under Armour, especially if you’re just going to walk around here.
The Second Layer: Mid-Layer (S)
The second layer can be actually the second, third or fourth layers, because the number of mid-layers will depend on even the outside temperature (colder, more mid-layers). The goal of mid-layer is to hold the heat is coming out of your body, so the material has to be insulation. This is a layer thicker and the ideal fabrics are wool, fleece (cute fabric) and polyester.
In this layer that I create my look-although when the temperature is so cold I didn’t even think about fashion and leave more for what is warmer and less painful. Usually use a wool legging (and legging pants I like to shop at Zara and H & M, priced around C $50), and assorted blouses (long jackets, fleece vests, jackets-here you can even enjoy some winter sweaters from Brazil).
The Third Layer: Outer Layer
The third and last layer is your snow coat, and his type will depend on the temperature of your style and purpose. What we see here is that most people use a good coat of snow for all occasions-because you will get it when entering the sites. When I arrived here I thought the coat needs to be heavy to be hot, but I was wrong.Today I have a very light coat and that that too – with a material called down, which is much more lightweight and gets very hot.
Those coats more clean-cut of Brazil you won’t use in days with freezing temperatures. Forget it. The way is to put a coat of snow, with Hat and long and be happy with it. In fact, I couldn’t “reuse” no winter coat of Brazil for the Canadian winter — and lived in the South, it’s cold. Use in mid-season, but in winter there’s no way. And even the visitors who bring various winter coats are taken by surprise and end up using our coats here.
A lot of people ask me where to buy coat, which the best stores and prices. In winter you find good jackets in all malls to sell, but I always point out good brands such as Oakley, Columbia, Burton, The North Face, Patagonia, Canada Goose, Spider, Salomon, etc. It’s no use paying very cheap in a coat-probably he won’t be so hot–and think, you’re in Canada and if you live here you will use this coat for long 6 months. If you want to invest in a good coat of snow keep at least C $250 (but most beautiful models and brands more expensive – as Canada Goose – can leave for $700 or more), but depending on the time that you buy (end of season) and where (versus outlets malls) can save a little.
I will use as an example 3 overcoats (to the knee) that I got: a black of Oakley, a Mexx Brown and one white of Salomon. Black bought in USA in an outlet and paid C $200 in 2012 (use today and love). The Mexx is more fashion and warm, but not in hat (so I can’t use very, very cold day) and I paid super cheap in a mega-promotion C $150 at Vaughan Mills. And this year I bought a long white and very light of Salomon (a brand I love) at the ski/snowboard of Toronto and paid C $270 (the regular price was C $400+fee). Other than that I got my ski jackets-I use on the street too–and vests (which are vests toasty when I want to exercise and not felt so stuck–and when the temperature leaves).
Accessories: Stocking, Boots, Hat, Ear Protector, Glove, Scarf
Not only does a human being layered on a cold day. The accessories are indispensable and essential for you to survive the winter.
After my husband bought me a thermal half my life changed. I thought I could use any half since he was with a warm boot–was sadly mistaken. Thermal socks are more expensive (between C $20 to $40) but worth every PENNY PAID. Ours are of Under Armour and bought in the outlet for C $29.90 each. Speaking also in feet, I have 2 types of boot that I use in the winter: the UGG and SOREL. The Ugg is that type “elephant’s foot”, very comfortable and warm, but I guess well bad use in days of heavy snow. This is where you enter my Sorel, who has a whole sole of rubber and can handle any temperature (but is quite heavy). A Ugg (original, because you think a lot of imitation by ai) costs around C $200 (depending on the model) and the cheapest Sorel boots cost $100. Do you think these boots in various shops. My Ugg bought in an outlet in the USA and the Sorel on Orfus Road (a street of Toronto more away and full of cheap stores, you never pointed out here on the blog because I don’t think it’s worth to go there).
I have long hair and thick (it’s a “layer”) and as most of my jackets have hoods I end up using very little hat. But on days like today (-17 c of thermal sensation) I end up using an ear protector, which is great and very helpful. Lined with fleece Beanies are the best and you think good for C $20. My ear protector I bought at H & M and I paid $15 (I thought the great price and he’s pretty good). Obviously has the hottest and most famous brands that you can find for various prices. A cool place to find these accessories of good brands and great prices is in store Winners.
For the good hands gloves are very important. You will find cheap gloves for up to C $10 in stores of type GAP or Old Navy, but when the cold beat you will realize that they don’t serve for anything. Some people think ideal leather gloves (C $50 or more), but for me the mittens are the best (wool gloves with fleece inside, leaving your fingers together). The Bay sells Canada mittens for C $10 and are great. If you want more cute try the store Aritzia (on sale you think by C $20).
Last but not least, a warm scarf is life. I like the thick and long wool, which make several laps. There also those who seem golas (called here to infinity scarf) that are very warm. Prices vary but a good wool scarf comes out around $30-40. I always buy on my favorite clothing stores (Zara, H & M, etc).
Okay, now that I explained to you about what to use follows some examples that I thought of old photos for you to see how to dress well in winter is an apprenticeship and I didn’t always hit.
In the above photo me and my husband Julian happy posing for the photo in Northern Ontario. I did put a boot Ugg warm, a BEAUTIFUL ski jacket that I have (it’s not like snow jacket, but it is warm), was with my base layers and my mid-layer was greater than the jacket – it was more short. Although no opinion was a scarf but NO GLOVE (total fail huh people?).
In this second picture my girlfriend Alasia in Blue Mountains, and we were skating (I mean, her skating and I trying to). In this case it was very cold and I chose to put some pants on and a waterproof jacket (which I use to ski). Used hat, mittens and I’m all right. Note 10 for me and Utla (who was also wearing the layers correctly).
In this photo above I am using my black coat of snow, my boot Sorel, all layers and a super warm wool scarf that I bought (if not mistaken) in Old Navy and paid C $10.
Finally a photo that is all wrong-and if you see my face would notice how my nose was frozen. In this photo I’m normal Brazil leather boot, cold wool coat (the ideal are the waterproof, this one should be used in the fall or even mid-layer) and without a scarf or hat. This picture deserves a #fail, or #totalfail.

Some of the top plus size fashion shows are already happening, although many brands of the sector have not yet shown their proposals. Time was that pregnant women wore huge, dull, that in no way contributed to your beauty. There is no more this idea that a pregnant woman is not noticed for your style, your vanity and modernity, wearing clothes that make you feel uncomfortable. Not always a large part and wide (as was usual in these women) is synonymous with comfort.
Hello Hello! Looks like autumn really came! The day started with a lot of wind and rain, but is it definite? Some say yes, others still do not want to believe that bad weather has come. Is it time for us to take off our boots from the closet? I already joined but I have no problem returning for a few days to the sandals, I even liked it! The big question is that it’s raining but it’s not cold yet, so the tendency is in the morning not to know what to wear and to stand still looking at the closet and the window, like fools.
