Printers Perfectly Set Up – We Show How

If you print a lot, you have to worry about the printer driver’s standard requirements. With a permanent adjustment you save time, optimize the print quality and avoid misprints.

The printer users pay little attention to the printer settings, but there is a lot of optimization and savings potential.

Install The Latest Driver For Your Printer Model

The manufacturers of printers through regularly offer updated drivers for their devices – new printer drivers, which not only expand the respective range of functions, but also contain error corrections and in some cases reduce the consumption of ink and toner. On the manufacturer’s website, check if there is a new driver for your printer, download it, and install it if necessary.

Permanently Optimize Settings For The Printing Process

You can change the printer driver’s default settings as you wish. However, the adjustments made are only temporary for the particular print job and are reset to the default settings when the application is closed or when Windows restarts. If you want to optimize the print settings permanently, you must make the change yourself in Windows.Go to “Devices-> Printers and Scanners” in the “Devices-> Printers and Scanners” section of the Settings app for Windows 10 PC, but you can only add or remove devices, but you can not configure them. Scroll down to “Related Settings” and click “Devices and Printers”, Windows 10 will open the corresponding page of the Control Panel.

Click the desired printer with the right mouse button and select “Print Settings” from the menu. You can also access the print settings by clicking on the “Print properties” in the context menu and then on the “General” tab on the “Settings” button. In Windows 8.1 and 10, you can also double-click on the device in the printer folder and double-click the “Customize print options” menu item. Windows will remember all of the settings below for all programs and print jobs.

Basic settings: First check the basic settings-in general, it depends on the respective printer driver, which setting options are offered to you and how the settings dialog was designed. Set the default paper size, orientation, and multi-tray printers to the commonly used paper tray – usually A4 size in portrait mode and “auto feed”. Standard paper is standard paper for office printers. If you are using a photoprint to output images, set the photo paper location that is most commonly used.

Resolution and Duplex: For many printers, the resolution is set to an average value, which is a compromise between print quality and print speed. If you have a maximum output quality, select the highest resolution. When you print documents that are rarely used, such as double-sided printing or output in the reverse order, you can deactivate it.

To Optimize The Extended Print Settings For Your Needs

Printer-specific features and output options are usually found in the extended driver settings on one or more custom tabs. For example, scaling of the printout, the inclusion of watermarks, company logos as well as headers and footers, reverse printing for inverting the document as well as optimization settings like the adjustment of pressure density, toner fixation or shadow avoidance.

Deactivate color printing: For color printers, the color output is usually preset. Often, printing is unnecessary-for example in manuscripts or PDF documents. If you do not need a color, set “Grayscale” in the driver. Sometimes the output function “Print entire text black” is available. Thus, the printer uses only black toner or ink and leaves the ink cartridges at the output on the outside – that lowers the printing costs. By default, however, many devices produce pure text with all colors.

Saving energy: Energy saving options can often be selected in the driver settings or via the menu on the control panel of the device. Here, you specify the idle time after which the printer switches to the power saving mode, thus lowering the power requirement.

Upload Photos In The Best Possible Quality On The Paper

For your photos to be printed on the paper when using a phototin printer, you should make some important settings in the printer driver before each print job. If you are using the original photo paper from the printer manufacturer, activate the corresponding label in the driver. For third-party photo paper, choose an option such as “Gloss”, “Photo”, “Photo Glossy” or “Glossy”. When done, go to the print quality setting option. With paper grades between 125 and 200 g / m2, good to very good results can be achieved. If this quality is not sufficient for you, you need to use the Premium Premium Inkjet Photopaper with a weight of 250 g / m2 and select a suitable premium photo paper type in the printer driver.

Turn on the best print quality at the highest resolution, activate borderless printing, if desired, and, if available, the option for optimal color printing of photos to make the colors as natural as possible.

Set The Most Used Printer As The Default

Windows sets the last installed printer as the default printer that is preselected at each print job. If you have a photo printer or a label printer next to an office printer, you must change the printer every time so that the job does not inadvertently land on the wrong printer, where it costs expensive photo paper or labels. This is prevented by setting up the most commonly used printer as the default printer. To do this, click on the device in the printer overview of the system control with the right mouse button and select “Set as default printer”. In the future, you only need to change the active printer if necessary.

To Select The Best Printer Driver

The printer driver controls the settings that Windows makes available to your printer. Many manufacturers offer several driver variants for their printer models:

A basic driver, a printer driver for the network-often separate variants for access via LAN and WLAN-and a large driver and software package. Even the file size shows the differences: While the basic and network variant is usually only a few MB in size, the complete driver suite requires a lot of space. If you decide to use the basic or network driver, only the driver libraries required for local or network control of the respective device are installed, but not the additional software.

However, some Basistar drivers do not take into account all the settings of the printer-you have to set up the large driver suite, even if you do not need the software.
