NVIDIA Shield Tablet, The Information

After about year and a half since the CES 2013 Project Shield, already we were waiting with open arms a renewal of this product by Nvidia. Today has come, but with a twist to the original idea, in a format somewhat more versatile to suit more amount of applications

It is of the NVIDIA Shield Tablet, that gets cut into two parts. One will have an 8-inch dimensions tablet quite reduced. On the other hand, a wireless controller to play whenever you want, without bindings.

Of course Shield Tablet comes with the new processor from Nvidia, Tegra K1, with its new architecture Kepler in each of the 192 graphics cores which make up its Integrated GPU. It comes with 2 GB of RAM, and versions 16 and 32 GB of internal storage

This promises enough power to resolve a display in Full HD in 16:10 (1920 x 1080) for 283 pixels per inch definition. The panel is IPS, and comes canned in a body of 9.2 mm thick and weighs 390 grams.

The included battery promises, according to Nvidia, up to 10 hours of autonomy. That Yes, at the moment it’s data in video playback, we should expect to see what real autonomy in use as a gaming device.

It incorporates a pair of camera of 5 megapixels, both with HDR mode, although only the rear comes with autofocus. Rear of the tablet which, by the way, comes with a finished very nice Gummy, as they tell us in contact that they have had on Engadget.

NVIDIA Shield Tablet, multiplied possibilities

Even though it’s a device that stops being a portable console into a sort of mini-sobremesa, the possibilities with this tablet are now greater, as a device for the game and with some interesting features of the hand of Nvidia support.

And is that the Nvidia Tablet allows us to not only play without having to be looking at us hands, or via streaming thanks to Nvidia GameStream, but we can connect it to a TV and forget cables attached to our hands, or connect several commands.

This Nvidia brings a wireless controller, which will be sold in principle separate and for about 59.90 euros, connected via WiFi Direct. This will allow halving typical latencies of Bluetooth commands from about 20 milliseconds, according to Nvidia.

Of course, now will be also more comfortable and versatile to use this device to other uses that are not the play, since we can use it simply as a tablet, either to play or not. This includes also a Stylus accelerated by hardware, which preserves one of the corners of the device.

NVIDIA Shield Tablet, availability and price

NVIDIA Shield Tablet will come to Spain on 14 August, at a price of 299 euros in its version of 16 GB and Wi-Fi, 379 euros if we talk about the 32 GB model with included LTE connectivity.

Controller, as mentioned, will buy it separately at a price of 59.90 euros. We can add the cover bracket, Shield Cover, for 29.90 euros. Now NVIDIA has decided not to renew the concept of portable console, and we keep buying the original Shield at one lower price, than 199 euros.
