How to Choose a Cell Phone Screen Protector

The key element of a phone is its display. The vast majority of today’s devices are fully controlled through a touch interface and few are those who retain a keyboard. Fashion being what it is, their size is increasing year after year. At the launch of the iPhone first name, 3.5 inches seemed to be a liberal value. Except that since the PHABLET arrived and it became normal to cross slabs of 5.5 to 6 inches.

What screen size?

The screen size directly determines the kind to which the phone will belong. Around 5 inches, it is considered a smartphone. Above, it is a PHABLET. But the border is difficult to define categorically. The example of Samsung Galaxy edge S7 is interesting: its screen rises to 5.5 inches, but it lodges in a chassis that might suggest a 5-inch device. The edges of the hull were trimmed to the maximum to make room on the display.

The choice of screen size depends on two things: the use we intend to make and anatomy of the wearer. Those who watch a lot of videos on their phone without doubt appreciate the visual comfort offered by a PHABLET. This also applies to games or web browsing. Only what comfort can turn into a disadvantage when it comes to storing the device in a pocket. We must imagine that with 6 inches, like the Huawei Mate 8 , users will be hoping for a quick return of fashion baggies for men, while women can no longer go out without a bag big enough.

Then comes the question of the size of the hands and the way you hold the phone. The PHABLET are not really suitable for use with one hand. Some manufacturers around the problem by proposing modes reducing the size of the interface in a corner of the screen, but it loses a little the interest of a large format. Power make up sliding gesture down with the thumb has never been a concern at the time that the screens did not exceed 4 inches. Today it is sometimes a challenge to those whose thumbs are not measuring 10 centimeters. From 4.5 inches, the maneuver becomes complex with one hand and will ask the other reinforcement.

What screen technology?

Past the issue of size, it is mainly the technology used by the slab that is important. On this point, there is no screen “miracle”  that satisfied everyone. Each has its strengths and weaknesses, the whole being to find one that is closest to its expectations from its budget.

LCD

The LCD for Liquid Crystal Display, is a predominantly widespread technology in the input devices and midrange as inexpensive. Exceptions exist in the high-end, with HTC for example.

HTC 10 is equipped with a screen  SuperLCD 5, especially interesting with a color rendering that approaches the fidelity while being sufficiently bright to be pleasing to the eye.

AMOLED

The AMOLED is sort of the muse Samsung . Designer of the technology, it is therefore the manufacturer which is used most widely. The ranges  Galaxy S  or  Galaxy Note feature in. The benefits of AMOLED screen feel particularly regarding the contrast: the colors are bright, almost too much so, while the blacks are deep simply incomparable.

IPS / Retina

The IPS is based on LCD technology. Its strengths are high fidelity in color reproduction and very wide angles of vision. LG is particularly fond of IPS, which is found on the majority of its phones, including those produced for Google, the Nexus.

Screens Retina HD for iPhone 6S and iPhone 6s More are also based on IPS technology.

In the end, the screen technology is not really decisive in choosing a smartphone. Everything depends on the way, the master builder display technologies and it is prudent to look at the tests to get a fair idea of the actual quality of the screen.

What definition?

Another important criterion in the choice of the screen is its definition. It corresponds to the display accuracy and the amount of detail it comprises. Be careful not to confuse definition and resolution:The definition

This is the number of pixels displayed on the screen, expressed as follows: horizontal vertical pixels X.For example: 1280 x 720, which corresponds to 720p or 1920 x 1080 for 1080p. It also speaks of Full HD in the latter case. Finally, the Quad HD be on high-end devices like the Galaxy S7 Samsung or G5 LG.

It is easy to ‘park’ the devices in different ranges as defined, for those who are equipped with the Android system anyway: WVGA (800 x 480): entry level 720p (1280 x 720) & 1080p ( 1920 x 1080): mid-range Quad HD (2560 x 1440):  premium

Apple offers two screen sizes on its  iPhone 6s and  6s More: 4.7 and 5.5 inches, with many definitions. The first is not “HD”, with 1334 x 750 pixels, but the resolution is still rises 326 dpi, enough to be perfectly fluid in the eyes of the majority of users. The second gives the Mode Full HD with a resolution that exceeds 400 dpi. Finally, the iPhone OS uses the same configuration as the iPhone 5, ie a 4-inch screen and a resolution of 1136 x 640, which allows again to establish a resolution of 326 dpi.

The resolution

It expresses the accuracy of the display. It corresponds to the density of  pixel density, or “dpi”. Past a certain value, the human eye is able to distinguish between normal pixels remote observation of the screen. On average, 320 dpi is sufficient, but for the most piercing eyes, you need to 400 dpi before making them invisible details.

The screen protection

The screens of the phones are protected by the glass. This material has two main problems: the resistance and glare. A company specialized on technology combining robustness and effective treatment of light: Corning. His “Gorilla” glass provides both better protection and less glare possible.

3D Touch, curved … What’s the point?

Lately, the screens of vintage phones evolve over form, and also on the cellphoneexplorer. Samsung, for example, was the first manufacturer to launch phones whose edges are curved, with the  Galaxy S6 Edge and  S6 Edge + .Since then, other models followed including the Galaxy S7 edge or the Blackberry Priv. This feature, however, is more aesthetics than functionality. Indeed, if the devices are unlike any other, interactions offered by this specificity are rare, only a few shortcuts to contacts or apps.

The Apple side, it goes a little further. With the new iPhone 6s and  6s More, the American manufacturer has integrated the 3D Touch. Externally, there is nothing to distinguish else other screen. Yet inside, it is a concentrate of technology that distinguishes the pressure force applied to it.Thus, new interactions may occur, for example quicker access to a specific function of an application or preview a mail or message without having to get into it.

Other manufacturers are interested in this kind of technology. The Chinese giant Huawei beat Apple by showing equivalent technology, Force Touch, the Mate S. But this model, in addition to not be available for the moment and an unknown price, does not take advantage of integrating as the advanced technology as the  iPhone.
