Fishing for Pike and Perch

The pike perch

Scientific name: Stizostedion Lucio pierced
Family: Percids
Maximum weight: 18 kg
Maximum length: 1,20 m
Life span: 20 years

Description:

The pike perch is several decades of year installed on our country but also on Europe. You can recognize through his thin body, supplanted by two distinct ridges. The first Ridge has 14 spiny rays while the second contains up to 23 soft rays. Her mouth is rather large compared to the body, containing many teeth including 6 large fangs. His body color, ranging from green up through green/yellow on the flanks and arriving at the white on the belly, give him a formidable camouflage in its natural environment.

The same family that Poles, has percids to a very good view in water cloudy and low light, allowing him to regularly hunt at night. It adapts very quickly to its aquatic environment.

Diet:

The pike perch is a suspicious fish, loving little strong brightness, large sunny days are not his cup of tea! Lurking in the shadow of an obstacle, it hunts in band in two steps: attacks lightning to kill or injure the prey more then he comes back to eat the victims that it retrieves on the bottom! Has a bloody reputation: it is a formidable Hunter feeding as well of prey dead of living prey.

Adept small prey, larger specimens of Pike perch can stay alone without any problem.

Reproduction:

The reproduction of the Pike perch occurs between the months of April and the month of June, the water should be around 13 to 14 degrees. Males looking for shallow depths with more equity, the pits are perfect for him, current must be close to zero. Once the location has been found, the male makes its nest of about 50 cm in diameter. When the nest is ready, the female comes to lay its eggs, Zander male fertile them and fiercely defends its nest for 10 to 15 days. During this period, the pike perch is particularly vulnerable, addressing all approaching the nest… It will take a blackish color, usually called coal Zander then, when fishing a coal perch by mistake, release it!

While Zander male protects and takes care of oviposition (ventilation), the female hand strength, I insist, but it is imperative to leave them alone.

The pike perch growth is fast, it is very uncomfortable on our territory and in only 6 years it can reach 4kg. 3 to 4 kg are very frequent in France and it is not uncommon to fish specimens of more than 10 kg!

Regulation:

The regulation of alltimefishing does not protect to speak the pike perch, it is at the moment a minimum protected by the closing of the pike fishing but it is far from being a viable solution! In the majority of cases, the pike perch fishing is therefore allowed in the second category, from May 1st to the 31st of December, yet its reproduction can be made until June! You can see that there is therefore a problem, hoping that the future overhaul of regulation to solve the problem.

Face this legal void, several departments we implemented the prefectorial orders in order to level has this one. Too bad that all do not follow this approach.

Danger:

The pike perch is a very prolific fish, allowing the species to proliferate quite quickly! This isn’t as far as should not preserve it, search for the taste of their flesh. Some fishermen do not hesitate to attend the spawning grounds, a deplorable act which should not remain unpunished. Establishing openings offset from the opening of the Pike would give one more to its development in our waters.
